Archaeological Museum of Eretria
Description
The Archaeological Museum of Eretria, as it appears today, is the last of a series of museums and collections in Evia that were organized in the years 1983-1991 under the responsibility of the then Curator Mrs. E. Sapuna-Sakellaraki. The first building of the Museum was built in 1961, to house findings from the wider area, which were gathered in a small warehouse in the city of Eretria. The main finds from Eretria, the sculptures of the temple of Daphniphorus Apollo, had been exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Chalkida, while other objects had been transferred to the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. Finally, many important finds of the region are in foreign museums. The opening of the Eretria Museum took place in 1991.
